Me and my friend got to the event at 1:30, stood in the VIP line up for about 10 minutes. The battles started after 3:15 pm.
We had VIP tickets. The VIP sections were balconies. At first there were 2 sections, they opened a 3rd section later on to accommodate the large number of people that joined in.
Let’s first talk about the VIP sections.
This is what we were supposed to be getting.
“Pre-Sale V.I.P. tickets are only $70 and include a free drink, VIP access and a guaranteed spot up front to see the battles live + more perks when you get to the venue. There were only 100 VIP tickets available and already we are over half sold out. Make sure to get yours today if you want a VIP ticket.”
This is what we got.
VIP access was a balcony with 3 dirty couches and a couple of rusty tables. The guaranteed spot up front to see the battles live was non-existent, the best view you got was the view from the balcony in the VIP section in which you were standing, even that being in question considering that a group of friends would hog spots with a good view and save the spot for each other while one takes a piss or grabs a beer and etc…
Aside from the 1 free drink ticket there was no perks that I knew off that VIP’s got.
There was a lot more than 100 VIP’s at the venue.
This to me killed the whole purpose of getting the VIP tickets in the first place.
As I already mentioned, the battles started after 3:15 pm. The first battle was Soul vs Wize Guy.
Couldn’t hear none of the intros because the mics were low and the crowd was talking. I had little interest for this battle to begin with, so I won’t go into detail. Basically Wize Guy had a couple of funny jokes, touched on the Caustic incident and then had a lot of average material to follow. Soul, rebuttalled the Caustic incident and was very aggressive throughout all 3 rounds. So I agree with the decision.
Tycoon Tax vs Kaliente
Tycoon Tax had performance of the night in my opinion. He took good angles, had clever rhymes and just had a great performance. Kaliente was his usual self, nothing spectacular, aside from the 45 secs of his performance where there was no reaction whatsoever, it wasn’t horrible.
J Pro vs Sun Tzu
Couldn’t hear 90 % of what Sun Tzu said. J Pro was his usual self. Could hear most of what he said, of the power of his voice alone, cause the mics were way too low, and the crowd talked way too much. Obviously I couldn’t tell who won.
PoRich vs 100 Bulletz
Walked out of the washroom right at the start of Bulletz’s 3rd verse, it was monotone wordplay as usual, which I am just not into. Porich once again choked, not once but twice in that battle. Very boring battle.
Uno Lavoz vs Madness
Madness slipped up in the end of his 1st round. The Madness we wanted to see never showed up. Uno Lavoz didn’t slip up, had a clean performance from what I can tell. Might be a good battle on camera. Was an ok battle live.
HFK vs Charon
This battle had personals, jokes, etc… not as good as I expected, but can’t say it was a let down either. Liked HFK’s line about Charon’s sister.
Ness Lee vs Shotty Horroh
Ness Lee didn’t look like he cared here, choked in his 2nd round. No one on the balcony could hear a word Shotty Horroh was saying, at first people were yelling to turn the mics up, then they just accepted that sound quality is the way it is.
*Note: By this time the sound quality is much better.*
Pat Stay vs Math Hoffa
This battle was friendly competition like Pat Stay vs Head Ice, not a heated battle like Pat Stay vs Marv One. Lots of jokes from both sides. Good battle, but nothing close to a Classic.
Arcane vs Dizaster
Dizaster went at Arcane with the same angle for all 3 rounds, had super weak rebuttals (which led to booes) and lost his cool a couple of times during the battle.
Arcane did his regular break down of his opponent and showed him how it’s supposed to be done, but this time the build up to the scheme was better than the scheme itself.
I agree with the decision, but will all the bullshit going on I’ll have to rewatch it.
All in all I was disappointed with the event because I didn’t get what I expected (couldn’t hear a lot of the battles or see them the way that I wanted to) and because the battler’s didn’t perform as good as expected. This is the 4th KOTD event I have been to live. I will think before ever buying a VIP ticket again.
